Blogging Tips
The Art of Blogging. Everybody’s doing it, but are they doing it right? Of course, just like tying your shoelaces or making paella everybody has their own way of doing things, and there isn’t always a right way and a wrong way, but if you really want to make a difference with your blog (I’m not talking about a revolution here) and have people read it, there’s nothing quite like gathering your first bunch of followers. I know, you’re doing it for your own benefit and not to change the world, but it’s still gratifying to know that somebody is actually listening to your voice in the crowd.
Blogging is great fun, but, let’s be honest, many bloggers start off extremely enthusiastically and then soon run out of wind . . . well, run out of things to write about more likely. It can get pretty soul destroying if you’re hoping to reach a large worldwide audience to find that nobody is actually reading your blog except your Mom (and you wish she wouldn’t, then you could make your private life sound much more interesting).
Blogging is actually a great way to make money for the chosen few. If you start off blogging in order to make a quick buck then you’re probably in the wrong job. It takes a lot of time, effort and skill to build a profitable blog, these things don’t happen overnight you know, I don’t care what the emails in your spam folder promise you.
Blogging Tips
Here are a few tips which you should follow if you really do want to build a successful blog of your own, and perhaps even make a little money while you’re at it . . .
- Blogging topic – pick a topic and stick with it. There’s nothing more frustrating than a mixed up blog. Your blog needs a theme which has plenty of scope for you to write about and make it interesting. Pick a topic in which you are genuinely interested (so you don’t lose interest) and then target your blog towards other people who have the same sort of interests. If you make it interesting enough your readers will come back again and again to see the new posts which have been added.
- Informative blogs – are the best type, but you’ve got to make sure that the information you give is correct . . . allowing for a certain degree of poetic license or plenty of disclaimers – “this diet is guaranteed to help you lose 10 lbs in the first week” – disclaimer – any claims about the success of this diet are purely hypothetical and should not be taken at face value! Anyway, the most popular blogs are interesting, informative and current. Nobody wants to read about yesterday’s news . . . what’s happening NOW in your chosen topic?
- Regular blogging – is important to not only catch a good following of readers but to keep them interested. Don’t worry if you can’t update your blog every day, but at least try to work on it every couple of days. There’s nothing quite so off-putting as visiting a great blog you’ve discovered to find that nothing has changed day in, day out. You soon start to search for your entertainment elsewhere. Try to set yourself a realistic time schedule and stick to it, if your audience finds that you update your blog every Sunday morning and Wednesday night after you’ve been bowling, then they’ll tune in on those days and everybody is happy.
- Be patient – blogging success does not happen over night, so if you start to build your blog with the idea of pleasing yourself, then if you do start to please other people eventually it will be a bonus.
- Blogging Design – is important. Try to make your blog stand out from the crowd, at the same time it’s gotta be easy to understand and easy to navigate. Color themes are important too.
- Blog Writing – even if writing doesn’t come naturally to you, you’ll soon develop your own writing style. One thing which is important is that you proof read, edit and spell check every blog before making it public. Nothing is more likely to put people off than reading a badly written or badly speeelled blog.
- Blogging Tools – are available to help you build your blog and increase the traffic to it. Once you’re up and running you can enrol for things like Google Adsense to hopefully earn a little revenue. It’s not easy to become approved and you might find that you’re knocked back the first few times but keep at it, it should all be worth it in the end.
